County Sheriff’s Department Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Quick Facts
· Dates: 7
weeks (July 9 – August 24)
· Hours:
8:00-4:00
o
3 days/week –
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays (21 hours/wk)
· Wage: $11/h
· Work on a team for the Sheriff at either the Suffolk
County Jail, House of Corrections, or Chelsea Training Facility & Civil
Process
· Weekly meetings on Wednesdays with
top officers from the law enforcement community
· Weekly tour or field trip on
Fridays
· Gain insight into the world of law
enforcement
Who Can Apply?
·
Must be currently in 10th or 11th
grade (this means you will be entering 11th or 12th
grade in fall 2018—current freshmen, current seniors cannot apply)
·
Must live in Boston, Chelsea, or Revere
·
Ideal
applicants will be mature, professional and have an interest in some aspect of
law enforcement/criminal justice/police work
To Apply (Easy 2-step process!)
1. Ask
3 different people to be references. à
You will need to put them on the online application along with their phone #s.
a.
This is NOT asking for a
recommendation letter.
b.
All they need to do is give you their
phone # to be contacted for a quick conversation.
c.
Acceptable references:
i.
A teacher, a supervisor at your job, someone
from a volunteering commitment
d.
They cannot be relatives/family members!

You will be asked to give the 3 references

Be prepared to answer these questions:

What areas of law enforcement are you
interested in?*
ii.
Why are you interested in the Summer
Enrichment Program at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department?*
iii.
Please tell us in your own words why you
will make an excellent addition to the Summer Enrichment Program at the Suffolk
County Sheriff’s Department. (150 - 200 words.)*
c. If you are under 18, your parent/guardian has to sign at
the bottom of the application.
d.
Where it says “For

Interviews
will be held May 14th - May 25th.
1. If selected, you will be required to attend an
interview.
2. After the interview, decisions will be given by
PHONE – check your phone and don’t miss the call!
+ If you are hired (need them by May 1), get these
things together

Must have a bank account – checking or savings à ask your parents to take you to the bank
and set one up for you, if you don’t have it
·
Must have an ID card (à Passport, Social Security, Green Card, Mass ID or Drivers’
License) to photocopy
·
Must have an updated Physical form from your
doctor certifying you are in good health
·
Must be able to pass a drug test

7-week paid internship
where students learn about MA court system, the role of the judicial branch
of government and fundamental principles of law. Students work under
supervision of clerks, probation officers, etc in Boston area courts.
Work responsibilities include clerical and office duties, including filing,
answering calls, helping the public with information, assisting court
staff.
Students work in
different courthouses across the city of Boston. Interns also participate in
a Mock Trial with the Nelson Fellows at the end of the summer.
Students who are accepted into the program must be available for the Spring Session held every Thursday 5/24 - 6/21
